Primary care plays a crucial role in the cancer pathway.

Primary care encounters a high volume of patients and is well placed to identify potential signs and symptoms of cancer, enabling timely referrals for diagnostic investigations in secondary care. Primary care can also be pivotal to support a patient once they are diagnosed with cancer.

The overall aim of the Primary Care Expert Advisory Group is to

• Provide specialist advice and guidance to the West Midlands Cancer Alliance (WMCA) workstreams on improvements to primary care related cancer pathways (such as urgent suspected cancer referrals)
• Identify priority topics and support the development and promotion of primary care education events and resources
• Act as a forum for collaboration and sharing and learning best practices, innovations, and challenges in primary care cancer services and therefore contributing to the development and implementation of guidance, initiatives and pilots in these areas.
