“My Perfect Appointment” is a co-designed, co-delivered and co-produced film created alongside people with learning disabilities, carers, and healthcare stakeholders. Together, we set out to show what a truly perfect appointment can look like — especially when it comes to cancer screening. This video highlights the key elements, practical tips, and small changes that make a big difference for patients with learning disabilities.

This work builds on our focus groups, where people with lived experience shared the barriers they face when accessing healthcare, particularly cancer screening. Their voices shaped every part of this project. They told us what works, what doesn’t, and what needs to change — and they are leading the way in deciding what matters most.

As part of this wider programme, we are developing a comprehensive toolkit to support people with learning disabilities to attend their cancer screening appointments with confidence. The toolkit will bring together accessible information, existing resources, and new tools chosen by people with learning disabilities themselves. The aim is simple: to empower people to make informed decisions by giving them information in a way that is clear, meaningful, and easy to understand.

 This is genuine co-production — reducing health inequalities by ensuring people with learning disabilities direct the work, shape the solutions, and define what a perfect appointment looks like for them.
